As a local church body of the Global Methodist Church, Garber Church strives to carry out the mission of God’s church
by faithfully following the Greatest Commandment [Matthew 22:37-40]
and answering the clarion call of the Great Commission [Matthew 28:17-10].
We seek to passionately, extravagantly and boldly love God and others in all we do and all that we are.
We desire to know God, be known by him, and seek to make him known together.
We are committed to respond to who God has uniquely called Garber to become and who He has called us to serve.
Below is our best effort to try to articulate how we have discerned God’s leading &
how to live into that unique calling as faithful disciples in New Bern and beyond.
The Mission of Garber Church
To be the church by loving God and loving people [Matthew 22:37-40, John 13:34-35] forward to the foot of the cross of Christ [1 Corinthians 2:1-2, 1 Thessalonians 2:8], in hopes that others may know God [Ephesians 3:17-19, 1 Corinthians 9:19-23], be known by God [Matthew 7:21], and seek to make him known [Matthew 28:19-20].
We do this by engaging, encouraging, empowering, and equipping the saints for ministry to reach our church, our community, and to all of creation [John 3:16-17, Romans 1:16, Ephesians 4:11-16].
The Vision of Garber Church
Garber ACTS as a safe harbor to provide hope, healing, and wholeness for all who thirst for the Living Water of Jesus Christ as we faithfully send out disciples to seek and save the lost. Garber is committed to be a Harbor that acts as both a safe haven, a place of hope and healing, as well as a sending station, a place of equipping and deployment: Sent out of the Harbor as delivered, transformed, and reconciled ambassadors of Christ to seek and save the lost. We don’t do this out of our own power, but by the power and the Spirit of Jesus. [2 Cor. 5:14-21, John 7:37-38, 1 Cor. 9:17-23, Luke 10:45, John 3:30]
The Values of Garber Church
We are committed to build up & be the Church through our values that reflect our identity & purpose.
- Worship Passionately: A Surrendered church, earnestly seeking the Lordship of Christ. In our worship, we desire to surrender to and be fully devoted to one God - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We are passionate about what is important to God. [Rom. 12:1-2, Matt. 22: 37-40, Heb. 12:1-2]
- Love Extravagantly: A Sanctified church, faithfully loving people forward to the foot of the cross. Jesus calls those who follow Him to love God wholeheartedly and love their neighbors as themselves. Our desire is to demonstrate to the world the extravagant love of God in the person of Jesus Christ. [1 John 4:16, John 13:34-35, John 15:13]
- Witness Boldly: A Spirit-Led church, joyfully sharing the Gospel and Life with others. We have been entrusted with a lifesaving and transforming message that we must share with others. Our witness is bold, compelling and fearless. Our mission advances when individuals become disciples of Jesus Christ and join God’s mission to make more disciples. [1 Thes. 2:8, 1 Cor 9, John 12:24-26, Matt. 28:19-20, 1 Tim. 1:5]
The Focus of Garber Church
The vision, mission, and values of Garber is founded on a navigation system that helps keep us on target. This focus seeks to bring glory to God by embodying and unifying Garber into ACTS of Faith through:
- Anchoring in the Word [Eph. 3:17, 2 Tim. 3:16-17, Heb. 6:19]
- Compassing on Christ in Community [John 15:1-13, Matt. 6:33, Heb. 12:1-2];
- Training up Disciples [Rom. 12:1-2, Eph. 4:1-5:1, Matt. 9:35-10-4]
- Sending & being Sent out to Share Gospel and life to Seek and Save the lost [1 Thes. 2:8, Matt. 28:19-20, Matt. 10:5-42, Romans 10:14-17, 1 Cor. 9:19-23]
